UPDATED
17:09 pm Friday 23rd Oct 09: Thursday 29th
October to Saturday 31st October 2009 (this
is the most impacting strike with VERY LIMITED delivery of
mail)
The CWU members are continuing to strike in a rolling method around the country. This has enabled maximum impact on customers for minimum disruption to the workers wage packets. Contract Mail (such as credit card bills, junk mail and unaddressed advertising leaflets) and regular letters are and will continue to be largely unaffected as Royal Mail are fined large sums if these items do not get through to customers in a reasonable time. Large letters and parcels are the worst hit by these strikes as items left unsorted by end of shift are left to pile up until time is found to sort them. Unfortunately Royal Mail's own rules of "first in first out" sort method is not adhered to in most depots and often new mail is sorted before backlogged mail. We understand why the CWU members are striking. Some of the things we have been told by Royal Mail staff who work closely with our companies about conditions and working restrictions are truely shocking. If they are to be believed, it is absolutely no wonder the members are standing their ground, however we believe intervention is now required to ensure everyone get's their mail in a timely manner. Here is an online petition asking for government intervention http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/MailStrike/ please take the time to sign it if you think the goverment can help resolve this situation in time for Christmas online ordering. This situation affects everyone in the UK who sends and receives mail. Here is a list of upcoming strike dates / locations: Strike action for week commencing 5th October 2009
